Romana Carén is an award-winning writer/director/actress from Vienna, Austria.
She graduated with a Master of Arts in Filmmaking from Raindance Film School (University of Staffordshire) and is currently a PhD student at DeMontford University, UK. Her practice-based research is focussed on Mastering the art of directing and acting in the same moving picture.
She wrote, directed, produced and starred in the film No Mother (2021), which won her the Best Actress Award from Austria International Film Festival, and a Best Actress, Best Director Short Film, Best Original Screenplay and Best Short Film accolade from the Academy of Independent Film Awards.
Further, Romana helmed the short films Smile (2019), Die Zwei Schabernack-Engel (2021), Heartbeat (2013), which was presented in the programs of the Cannes Film Festival and Raindance Film Festival, Where The Wild Roses Grow (2012) and Make A Wish (2011). Most recently she collaborated with Swiss director Hanspeter Horner to create the experimental film Nüt Nothing Nichts Kahich Nahi Nanimonai (2022).
The screenplay for her upcoming film It Could Have Been Me (2022) has won her Best Short Script awards from Future Of Film Awards and Art Films Awards and numerous nominations.
Since 2023 she is the Director of Postgraduate Studies and MA Filmmaking Programme Leader of Raindance Film School, UK.
